Registration

Why register?
  • CRU takes responsibility for those organisations on whose behalf we act
  • We ensure compliance with the DBS Code of Practice
  • We provide model policies that need to be adopted in order to comply with the Code of Practice
  • We provide advice and guidance on DBS checks and the Protection of Freedoms Act
  • We work to a published set of standards and complaints policy
  • We have quality management systems in place
  • We operate a fully bilingual service

The registration process

If you are offering under 8 day care provision and are CSSIW registered please read Regulated Day Care Provision for Children

Step 1: Establish entitlement to register – the CRU free service is open to any voluntary sector organisation within Wales but we must confirm voluntary sector status. We do this by:

  • Asking for your WCVA membership number, or
  • If you are not a member, checking against a listing of voluntary organisations operated by WCVA, or
  • Using a checklist of voluntary sector conditions

We will also ask if your organisation is in the position of recruiting staff or volunteers into positions that involve working with children and/or adults.

If you are not a voluntary organisation, you can still use our charged service.

Step 2: Signing and returning a registration agreement and model policies – once CRU has established your organisation is entitled to register you will be forwarded a Registration Pack.

This Registration Pack contains model policies on recruitment of ex-offenders and secure storage of DBS information as well as other information that you will find useful in this process. It sets out what you can expect from CRU and to what your organisation must commit to in order to comply with the DBS Code of Practice.

We need to ensure that the registration agreement is signed at an appropriate level and that your organisation has in place, or is able to adopt, the relevant policies and is able to meet the other conditions of the Code of Practice.

You can download the model policies from the resources below but they will also be included in the Registration Pack.
