Events & Seminars
Please contact us if you would like someone from CRU to talk to your organisation or perhaps at an an event that you are organising.

During October 2006 WCVA Criminal Records Unit held a highly successful series of Policy Events with a criminal records theme. The aims of these events were to inform organisations on risk assessment with an emphasis on Child Protection Policies; using and accessing criminal records checks; examining the latest developments in safeguarding children and the Disclosure service; and generally providing a forum for organisations to share experiences and network.

Key speakers at these events were Ken Hinton from the Children's Commissionner for Wales and Mike Lewis from Children in Wales. Ken Hinton focused on the role of the Children's Commissioner for Wales; how it can help children; how it involves children in everything it does; and its plans for the future. Mike Lewis focused on how all members of a community have a role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and how this can be best achieved.

The resources below are from these events and if you require any further information please do no hesitate to contact CRU. If you require Welsh copies of the presentations given by the Childrens Commissioner for Wales or Children in Wales please contact them directly.

We welcome any suggestions of themes for future events.

During October 2004 WCVA Criminal Records Unit held a series of information road shows across Wales in partnership with: NACRO CYMRU; NSPCC CYMRU WALES; and the Unit for Development in Intellectual Disabilities ( UDID) at the University of Glamorgan. These road shows were aimed at anybody who wanted to know about using Disclosure as part of an informed recruitment process.

Topics covered included child protection policies and risk assessment, employing people with convictions, accessing criminal record checks and policies and protection concerning adult abuse.

We welcome any suggestions of themes for future courses or roadshows
