Regulated day care provision for children
Under an agreement with the Welsh Assembly Government, CRU has taken over the checking arrangements for regulated day care provision for children under 8 years, previously in place with Care & Social Services Inspectorate Wales.

WCVA CRU is able to handle criminal records checks for staff and volunteers working in CSSIW registered day care settings for children – day nurseries, after school clubs, breakfast clubs, play groups and playschemes.

All regulated provision offering child day care is able to use the CRU service to request the statutory checks required for staff working in CSSIW registered settings. However the responsible/registered person will continue to be checked by the CSSIW.

All checks requested through CRU will have the CRB cost of the check supported by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The following umbrella organisations have registered to use the CRU service on behalf of their affiliated members – both private and voluntary sector provision:

If you are a member of any of these, you do not need to register with us independently, just contact your membership body or CRU if you need further information.

If you are an independent provision (voluntary or private) and/or would like to register with us on your own behalf then please complete the form in How to register or Contact us.

For settings that offer provision of less than 2 hours and so are NOT CSSIW registered, then we would recommend that staff working with children undergo a criminal records check as part of best practice. The CRU service can help you do this.
