For the majority of jobs within the voluntary sector (volunteer or paid employee), a position that involves working with children or vulnerable adults is eligible for a Disclosure.
It many cases it is not a legal requirement to carry out criminal records checks, but it is considered best practice that an organisation uses Disclosure as part of its recruitment process.
What is a Standard Disclosure?
A post is eligible for a standard level Disclosure if it involves:
- Working with children or regular contact with vulnerable adults
- also certain other professions, offices, employments, work and occupations
The content of the Disclosure will include:
- Spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on PNC
- also information from the DH and DfES lists for childcare positions and if requested information from the POVA list .
What is an Enhanced Disclosure?
A post is eligible for an enhanced Disclosure if it involves:
- Regularly caring for, supervising, training or being in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults
- also judicial appointments and certain statutory licensing purposes
The content of the disclosure will include:
- Spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings held on PNC
- Information from the DH and DfES lists for childcare positions and, if requested, information from the POVA list
- may also include relevant non-conviction information held by local police forces, known as additional information
