Disclosure and Barring Service - DBS

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a Non-Departmental Public Body created by merging the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

Organisations that would like to use DBS checks as part of safer recruitment need to be registered with the DBS or use the services of an umbrella body such as WCVA Criminal Records Unit.

The DBS acts as a 'one-stop-shop' and has access to information held on the Police National Computer and by local police forces, as well as the DBS Barred Lists.
