CRB

The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) is an Executive Agency of the Home Office and provides access to criminal record information through its Disclosure service.

Organisations that would like to use Disclosure as part of safer recruitment need to be registered with the CRB or use the services of an umbrella body such as WCVA Criminal Records Unit.

The CRB acts as a 'one-stop-shop' and has access to information held on the Police National Computer and by local police forces, as well as the ISA Barred Lists.

The ISA Vetting and Barring Scheme will work alongside the current system of CRB checks and many organisations will wish to apply for Enhanced Disclosure to obtain a full criminal history for an individual in regulated activity. This may be important to assess the full suitability for a particular position and in some sectors the requirement to also obtain a Disclosure will remain mandatory.
